Caleb shares a special bond with his granddad, and they do many things together, even going on great adventures, both real and imaginary. They play Frisbee in the park and visit the zoo, or they fight dragons and pretend they’re touring rock stars, complete with a long trail of rocks to mark the way. It’s a grand life they share until Caleb becomes a teenager and no longer has time for Granddad and his adventures. Then Granddad has an accident while working the yard, the same yard where all the shared adventures took place, and he is put in a nursing home. Unhappy with his new life, Granddad seems to be fading away – until Caleb finds the old scrapbook full of pictures of their adventures and decides to surprise his grandfather with a real adventure.
Christian Kueng’s picture book story, Caleb’s Adventures with Granddad, is a heartwarming story about the bond between a child and his grandfather. With the touching allure of the classic Robert Munsch’s Love You Forever, this story will bring laughter to your heart and tears to your eyes. The story is full of imagination and love and all that is good in life. Granddad gave Caleb something precious to cherish his entire life, and it was Caleb’s honor to reciprocate. The language is simple so a young reader can follow along, and the pictures are bright, bold, and engaging, helping to move the story forward. It's a beautiful story that will appeal to young readers of all ages. A lovely grandparent read to share with that special grandchild.
