Sixteen-year-old Callie was only about five feet tall, but her guts stood eleven feet proud. She had big dreams but came from a family that thought women were too delicate to be more. Fortunately, her wealthy and doting aunt, Nancy, took her side. Callie was on the way to her Krav Maga class when she foiled a kidnapping attempt by a violent gang called MS-13. The act put a target on her back, and the battle for survival began. Out of fear, Nancy hired a private guard named Billy to safeguard Callie and her family because she expected attacks from the gang. And they did. Callie, Billy, and Eva, her Krav Maga tutor, formed a team to wipe out the violent gang that even the police feared. Will they succeed? Find out in Callie Awakens by Rip Converse.
Callie Awakens by Rip Converse is a captivating, action-packed novel with unpredictable twists. I loved the unique plot and brilliant storyline, which made the novel a fantastic page-turner. Callie’s story at the beginning was relatable because every intelligent person has gone through that stage where they want to fit in. We realize it isn’t necessary because we’re all unique. Callie Awakens felt like a conversational piece, and I loved it. I also adored the relationship between Callie and Nancy, Eva, Rosalie, and maybe everyone she met. Callie was easy to love. When she gave Christopher that crunchy headbutt, I knew she’d do great things. Another beautiful thing about this novel is that it addressed a sensitive issue. The fight against sexism is long-standing, but when we have to deal with it in the family, where is our hope? Also, how do people enjoy hurting others while protecting their family as Diego did? Callie Awakens also reiterated that whatever your hand finds to do, give it all your heart because you might just be sitting on a goldmine like Frances and her bracelets. I love your writing style, Rip Converse, and will look out for the second book.
