Author Biography

I have always loved books, especially anything unusual, including paranormal, supernatural, science fiction, psychological thrillers, and dark, suspenseful mysteries that keep you guessing until the end. I started reciting stories at 3, and penning my own as soon as I could write.

I am a USA TODAY bestselling, multi- award winning author of multicultural paranormal romance, dark urban fantasy, and psychological thrillers. Most of my characters and stories, "Calm Assurance" included, come to me in dreams. In my "other" life, I am an animal rights activist, musician, educator, and counseling psychologist. A good story does not have to be a romance for me to fall in love with the characters.

Nephilim are thought to have disappeared from Earth at the time of the Great Flood, but in reality, some of them escaped to another dimension. Unfortunately, the majority of the Nephilim women were killed in the flood and the ratio of Nephilim men to women is now 500:1, meaning very few Nephilim men are able to love, to marry and to experience the joy of a family. In Calm Assurance: Orlosian Warriors Bk. 1 we meet Asriel, a Nephilim warrior whose job it has been to travel to Earth and render justice to those Angels who have forsaken the brotherhood to seek solace and love with a human woman. Author Dariel Raye takes us to a world where these “fallen” Nephilim warriors are stripped of their light and their immunity to Earth’s diseases, which forces them to live as vampires, stuck in the darkness and requiring human blood to give them the antigens to survive on Earth. When Asriel is sent to Earth to be a “watcher” rather than a “seeker”, assigned to protect Malina, he instantly realizes there is a soul-bond between them and understands that decisions will have to be made that will decide both hers and his future.

Calm Assurance: Orlosian Warriors Bk. 1 is a clever attempt by author Dariel Raye to tell a vampire story from a totally different perspective and I admired it for that reason alone. The plot and the premise are fascinating and the two principal characters, Asriel and Malina, are complicated and intriguing. I thought the author handled the love scenes with care and consideration, making them hot, racy and exciting without crossing that line from erotic into smut. I loved the idea of a strong, independent and fiercely protective woman whose defenses and walls built up over a lifetime totally crumbled once she was in the presence of her soul-mate. Equally, Asriel knew very early on that nothing was going to change the fact that Malina was the one destined for him and no matter what it cost him personally, he was going to protect and love her. If fantasy or paranormal romance is your thing and you fancy a different take on the vampire genre, I can highly recommend this story. It was a little too short perhaps for my usual liking but the promise of more in this series certainly kept me satisfied and I will pay the author the compliment that I want to read more of this premise.

In Dariel Raye's Calm Assurance, Asriel is a warrior and punishment executer from the Nephilim, a spurned race descended from humans and angels. He lives in Orlos, a place in a different dimension where war and intrigue rage between different entities. Commissioned to protect a human woman on Earth, Malina, he discovers a unique, most powerful bond to her. Their attraction and connection are instantaneous. But if Asriel chooses to romantically pursue her, he would break the Orlosian laws that prohibit such involvements and could be punished by being degraded to a vampire-like state forever. Asriel must battle within himself between his attraction and love for Malina and his logical, law-abiding mind. He also must protect her from the increasing attacks by enemy entities seeking relentless revenge. Will he be able to effectively protect her… and love her too?

Dariel Raye's Calm Assurance: Orlosian Warriors Book 1 delivers an exciting story of forbidden inter-dimensional romance in a fantasy of clashing events and feelings. The storyline is very thrilling, with a riveting pace. The characters have depth and credibility. This is especially true for the two protagonists, Asriel and Malina. Being so inexplicably attracted to each other, to make their love possible they must overcome their doubts and fears in the midst of surprising supernatural circumstances and turns of events that pose a serious danger to both. This is a story of two soulmates finding enough courage to overcome outer as well as inner conflicts in order to be with each other and fulfill their destiny, no matter what. I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline and the characters.

Calm Assurance: Orlosian Warriors Bk. 1 by Dariel Raye is the story of a Nephilim called Asriel and a human woman called Malina. Asriel is sent to follow Malina as she will lead him to a man they are searching for called Joseph. Over time, Asriel finds himself falling for Malina, but if he stays with her, he will never be able to return home. I think this was a good story with a solid plot. The characters were well developed and I found the dialogue believable. Malina has her own problems before the supernatural gets involved, but I did find it interesting that she was a magnet for the bad guys and wanted to find out why. Her relationship with Asriel was an unusual one and while there is obvious chemistry between them, Asriel knows that being with a human woman can be very dangerous for both of them.

Dariel Raye has created an entertaining read with Calm Assurance: Orlosian Warriors Bk. 1. There are quite a few Nephilim books on the market, particularly with relationships between a Nephilim and a human. I'm not sure if this is a trend but I do think it has been going on for a while now. While this is not a new concept, I do think that this book stands out as it has a good plot and it kept me engaged. There is a market for it, but it could get lost in a sea of similar books. I would recommend it to paranormal romance and supernatural book lovers.
