Caron: Awakening by C. J. Teahan is a celebration of a daughter’s resilience and the power of maternal love. The author’s daughter Caron suffered a traumatic brain injury in an automobile accident, and while she was in a coma, it catapulted her family into a mixture of grief, disorientation, disappointment, confidence, and hope. Teahan has the unusual attribute of being a kinesthetic learner. As a teacher by profession, she retains what she sees or hears by recording them in writing. From the day of her daughter’s accident, she faithfully documented Caron’s ordeal from the moment when she slowly regained consciousness, to her schedule of therapies, and then to the challenges that the family faced on her road to recovery.

C. J. Teahan’s real-life experience in dealing with her daughter’s accident attests to the power of families and the bonds that hold them together. As a writer, she weaves a colorful tapestry of the realities involved in helping a loved one get back on track. The collective efforts of Caron’s family, medical staff, and outreach communities give solid ground to the adage that it takes a village to raise a child - and to help care for an injured one. Caron is an inspiring true story that helps to renew your faith in the power of the human spirit which cannot be easily broken in the face of immense adversity. It’s a must-read for anyone in a similar situation, and for those who are facing a huge struggle and feel like giving up.
