Casanova Cowboy by Jo Ann Bender is a terrific read with a mix of different genres — romance, adventure, and drama — but what stands out is its appeal to fans of Westerns. The reader is plunged into a rural setting where inhabitants are always on the lookout for something exciting to break the doldrums of life, a community in the Rusty Springs valley where the store becomes the place for people to hang out and gossip. Before the arrival of cowboy Lance, the ladies who call themselves Stitch N’Bitches are already hyped up about what he’ll look like. It won’t be long before Joy Ann Oliver, the wife of his employer, takes a fancy to him. Follow a tale of romance that is like no other and discover how a cowboy’s passage could set the hearts of women afire.
Jo Ann Bender is a great storyteller with the ability to paint a world that the reader can visualize and feel as though they belonged there. The treatment of character is impeccable and I enjoyed the group of women, all wanting a bite of the cowboy. The rural nature of the setting comes out beautifully in the narrative and the reader gets a clear idea of how relationships work, of what people do with their idle hours, and the excitement of novelty. Lance is a character that readers will love. He is tall, slim, light on his feet, with unforgettable blue-gray eyes that light the fire in women’s hearts. The author’s sense of humor — at times grim — stands out among the other merits of this novel. Casanova Cowboy is the kind of novel that entertains readers and transports them into an environment where simplicity is beauty. It’s a great read, told in an arresting tone and in a language that is filled with humor. A real emotional roller coaster ride!
