Checkmate Run by Allan Alexander is about Alex Loevsky, a poet, medical student and a Jew. Being a Jew in the Soviet Union is not good for your health, especially if you have radical thoughts. Alex is intelligent and very capable, but prejudice against Jews is standing in his way to attain the heights he should be destined to achieve. From the very beginning, he is constantly fighting the injustice against Jews through his poetry. When his mentor, Andrey, is sentenced to prison with hard labor in a secret trial, Alex is beaten and left to die because he is suspected to have hidden the transcript of his mentor’s revolutionary book.
To save his life from the notorious and ruthless KGB, he is put into solitary confinement in the Internal Ministry Prison. Once he is released, he is forbidden to write anything and he is expelled from medical school as well. What is Alex supposed to do when everything is coming at him from every side? When the one he loves the most betrays him, can he make himself trust and love someone else? Will he live long enough to trust someone else?
Checkmate Run by Allan Alexander was a thrilling ride. The novel is long and will take two or three days to finish, but it will be worth it. There was nothing to make you question the plot or feel as if you have missed something. It is a complete novel that will give you a sense of fulfillment when you finish it. An amazing novel with the perfect amount of suspense and danger to make it interesting and entertaining.
