Chevalier by Bree M. Lewandowski is the story of Linah and Kohl as they fall in love and try to overcome the hardships in their lives that never seem to end. Linah Morane had the shock of her life when she was left alone at the altar. Humiliated and shattered, Linah was surprised when Kohl, the King's Vizier, sends a marriage proposal her way. Surprised yet elated, she accepts the proposal and the two get married. That turned out to be the best decision they ever made. They fall in love, slowly but surely, and sooner than they realized, they have everything they ever want in life. However, things come crashing down when they learn of the impending war. Suddenly, nothing is right in their lives anymore. But the real test comes when Kohl is injured and Linah has to do something to save him. Asking for help from the Nightingale Queen seems to be the right thing to do, but can she even help Linah and Kohl?
Linah and Kohl have a unique story, but it suits them really well. They are polar opposites of each other yet they fit together. While Linah is a little scared and hesitant, Kohl is confident and ready to take charge. The narrative is incredibly smooth; it flows beautifully and allows the reader to get invested in the story from the get-go. The plot itself is very interesting; the impending war, Kohl’s involvement in things that he really shouldn’t be involved in, and his love for Linah really drew me in. I loved this novel and I cannot wait to read more by Bree M. Lewandowski.
