The days before Christmas are often the busiest time of the year, although the Perkson family took things one step further. Mrs. Perkson was busy creating knick-knacks all year long, with a penchant for handicrafts. Mr. Perkson amused himself by decking the home with an ever-increasing length of Christmas lights. Not only that, but the family also took the tradition of Christmas gift exchange very seriously, carefully selecting personalized gifts for their relatives and friends. But not everything goes according to plan. How will the Perksons cope when, despite their best efforts, the unthinkable happens one Christmas? To find out, read Christmas Switcheroo, a children’s picture book written by Tuula Pere and illustrated by Outi Rautkallio.
Told through Alfie's and Ava's perspectives, the book presents a delightful picture of the Perkson family’s preparation for Christmas. I loved the whimsy of the characters, each adorable with their peculiar quirks. Be it a forgetful uncle, an opinionated aunt, a grumpy teen, or a neat freak artist, each steals our hearts with their unique personality. The Perksons' enthusiasm for celebrating Christmas through themed décor and thoughtful gifts will spark joy among readers. The fiasco surrounding the gifts was hilarious, and I was amused at the irony of the situation. Rautkallio demonstrates a distinct style of art that complements the story perfectly. Filled with vivid illustrations and cheery, festive vibes, Christmas Switcheroo is the perfect read for the holiday season. Although geared toward a younger audience, the book will also appeal to adults, especially fans of John Grisham’s Skipping Christmas.
