Super Players by Verne Harnish and Kevin Daum is a business and career guide about becoming the kind of employee whose contribution is noticed in an organization. Harnish and Daum begin by defining the habits they believe create greater value, then bring artificial intelligence into the discussion as a tool that can support human judgment. The book is organized around four attributes, with workplace scenarios showing how those habits operate on the job. Each section also gives readers steps they can try, recommended books or talks, and prompts for conversations with leaders. A later collection of professional accounts brings the ideas into real careers, before an employer guide turns the same framework toward companies seeking to develop stronger employees. Harnish and Daum finish by connecting employee development with the responsibility leaders have toward the people they manage.

Verne Harnish and Kevin Daum’s Super Players is a fantastic career guide, and a genuinely useful tool for professionals seeking career advancement. The writing is direct and easy to follow, and I love that Harnish and Daum put each lesson into a workplace situation. Angela’s work at Evergreen Commercial Construction is a perfect example, as her response to a reputation problem develops into a communications program involving other departments. I also liked Doron Bar-Caspi’s field note, where the Oracle executive explains asking managers what they need and building specialist teams around those priorities. It’s clear that decades of leadership experience and exhaustive business research have gone into this, and Harnish and Daum tie everything they write back to that. Well written and full of practical guidance, readers looking to elevate their career game will adore this.
