Chumbalina the Plump Princess by Christopher Holley is an adorable storybook for children that conveys a beautiful message and teaches kids acceptance, self-love and self-esteem, and also the importance of inner beauty. Chumbalina was a princess who lived in a faraway kingdom. She was different from other princesses and though she accepted herself, others didn't. Chumbalina was plump, she loved to eat, and she was not bothered about it. But the King started getting worried and he told Chumbalina to stop eating sweets and have only vegetables. Chumbalina decided to leave her parents and go and live in Gumdrop Palace where she could be herself and eat whatever she wanted. What happens next will keep readers entertained till the very end and teach them to love everyone, regardless of how big or small they are.

The story is delightful and the illustrations make it even more appealing. They are lively and colorful and breathe life into all the characters and scenes. It's a perfect bedtime storybook and kids will love Chumbalina. It's also a good story for read aloud sessions in classrooms and school libraries. Chumbalina is lovable and she comes across as an independent and brave girl who is also true to her own self. The book also projects the superficial world that we live in and that Chumbalina is refreshingly different. The story teaches readers to accept others for what they are and deals with weight and body issues which many children struggle with in today's society.
