Circles in the Dirt is a collection of observational poetry by Roderick Makim. These poems delve into the very nature of life, showing how it varies over certain cycles of time. Storm brings the nostalgic echoes of childhood freedom, and it stops suddenly, like growing old, as time changes everything. Destruction and art go hand in hand. The future shows endless possibilities, and the past is set in stone. What would you prefer, feeling pain or nothing at all? Nights at pubs or any other social gatherings will allow strangers to bond and become friends. Online meetings, however, often lead to deception and toxicity. It's necessary to let go of the weight of memories if you want to embrace the future, since nothing lasts forever.
Circles in the Dirt will make you contemplate. Honestly, I had to reread some of the poems in this collection to fully understand them. Author Roderick Makim incorporates themes and messages into his poetry with nuance and subtlety, which leaves them sometimes open to interpretation. That being said, I absolutely loved this book. Makim clearly is a master of his craft. I found some of the verses to be truly mesmerizing. The Sage, the Madman, and the Phoenix was one of my favorites from the book. But overall, I enjoyed every single one of them. In terms of structure, Makim mostly uses free verse poetry to touch upon ideas related to human nature and life. For poetry enthusiasts, this is a gem of a book. Highly recommended.
