Narrated in free verse, Color Me Skye is written by Gloria G. Adams. Skye Schuster is a twelve-year-old math prodigy. Life hasn't been the same for Skye ever since her mom married a man she calls "Dim Tim." Skye still misses her father, whom she lost when she was very young. He was in the army, and Skye still wears his military dog tags around her neck. When Skye's mom ends up in the hospital after a terrifying accident and falls into a coma, Skye has no choice but to interact with Dim Tim. However, she soon discovers Tim is new to doing household chores too and misses her mom very much. Meanwhile, she makes two wonderful friends at the hospital daycare center.

Color Me Skye is a heartfelt drama for preteens and even older readers. Gloria G. Adams has crafted a moving story about family, parenthood, and growing up that tugs at your heartstrings and leaves you wanting more. Adams does a brilliant job of capturing the feelings and emotions of a child who has recently started to connect with her introverted stepfather, and how they learn to navigate adversity together as a family. The characters act and talk like real-world people. The interrelationship dynamics between Skye, Tim, and Julie (Skye's mom) are at the center of the narrative. I also enjoyed Skye's friendships with Star and Marshall. The three of them together were adorable. It's a story with a lot of heart, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Highly recommended!
