Author Biography

I was reminded of a C.S.Lewis quotation - “A children's story that can only be enjoyed by children is not a good children's story in the slightest.”

And I had spent many years as a computer engineer, which is a solitary task - just you and the computer equipment. As we all know, computers, electronic games, TV shows and mobile phones and tablets are strongly prevalent in today’s society. And I believe some of the natural interactions between family and friends these days are gradually eroding if not already gone for some.

It sometimes feels like the simple joy of laughing or crying among family and friends is being replaced by beeps, bops and demands to ‘add new features’ or ‘why doesn’t this work?’ or ‘who’s hogging the Wi-Fi?’. So I set out to create a fun and exciting series of children’s short stories, with lots of adventure and splashes of humor, all paced to hold children’s attention whether reading or listening… at least that’s my hope!

Stories that will delight both boys and girls, the young and old, and, of course, moms and dads! Tales that allow a return to simpler values, kid-like imagination for both children and adults and, I sincerely hope, bring families closer together.

Super Speed Sam: Come Fly with Me by Monty J. McClaine is a short story about Sam, a basset hound with secret superpowers, and his human family, the McClaines. In this story, Sam has to come to the rescue of the youngest McClaine, Molly, and save her before she becomes a spider’s lunch ... all the while trying to figure out how Molly and he became flies. Can Sam rescue Molly in time and if he does will they forever live as flies?

Reading Super Speed Sam: Come Fly with Me made me feel as if I had been dropped right into the middle of a comic book or action cartoon. McClaine does an excellent job of painting a picture with his words and describing scenes. The story was fun, but a little complex for my 4-year-old to understand. So I recommend this book for ages 6 and up.

The only thing I wish that was different about this book was to see the illustrations a little larger. It is hard to see what is going on in the picture on a tablet without having to enlarge the picture constantly. However I did think the illustrations were cute and went with the story nicely.

I also really liked the way the story ended. McClaine has written several other Super Speed Sam books, but this is the first of his that I have read. I know a bunch of kids that will enjoy the Super Speed Sam series and I plan on introducing them to it.

Come Fly With Me: Super Speed Sam, Book 4 is a children's animal adventure book written by Monty J. McClaine. Molly found herself in a dire predicament indeed. She had somehow been turned into a fly, and she was trapped in a very sticky spider's web. As she struggled to escape the web, she became even more immobilised. When the spider finally began to approach her, she couldn't move a muscle and could only watch in horror as he drew near. His eyes seemed to mesmerize her and make her lose any sense of the danger she was in. Just as she thought there would be no escape, she saw Sam zoom past her. Sam quickly assessed the situation and rushed back to his kennel to get the necessary tools. He began to work furiously, cutting at the strands holding her, but he was running out of time. The spider was getting closer and closer. Would Sam's super speed powers be enough to save Molly and himself from becoming the spider's next meals?

Monty J. McClaine's children's animal adventure book, Come Fly With Me: Super Speed Sam, Book 4, is a fast-paced and suspenseful tale that had me fondly remembering Vincent Price and Jeff Goldblum's classic The Fly movies. Molly and Sam's special connection is explored more fully in this book, and I was thrilled to hear Molly conversing with Sam! As with the preceding books in the series, Come Fly With Me is an exhilarating mix of humor, adventure and fun, but this time, there's the additional suspense given to the tale with the hungry spider and then even Mom and Dad get in the act of giving Sam and Molly a difficult time. Sam invokes Australian Outback powers in his efforts to save Molly, and I found myself Googling Australian Outback Cork Hats to see exactly what he was wearing. While the concept seems sound, I'd think those bobbing corks would be quite a distraction. The Super Speed Sam series keeps on getting better and better, and I'd have to say that this is my favorite so far, even if it didn't really involve the hi-jinks of my favorite six-year-old member of the family. Come Fly With Me: Super Speed Sam, Book 4 is loads of fun and excitement, and it's most highly recommended.

Come Fly with Me is a delightful book that appeals to young readers. Basically, it tells the tale of a dog called Sam and his human family, composed of Molly, Mom, Dad, and Jack McClaine. Molly is the baby of the family and she shares a special bond with Sam. One day in particular, Sam and Molly are unexpectedly transformed into flies. Molly ended up stuck in a spider’s web with a huge menacing spider approaching her. She tried with all her might to pull herself free from the sticky web. Sam came to her assistance and, using his super speed powers, he succeeded in cutting Molly from the spider’s web. As flies, they landed in the kitchen, where Mom McClaine tried swatting at them. Even in the garage, when they alighted on Dad’s spotless red Corvette, he too tried to shoo them away.

Come Fly with Me is an interesting novel that most children would love. It is colorfully illustrated and the chapters are short and sweet. I love the fact that author Monty J McClaine utilized his own surname as the family name in the novel. This suggests that anyone can be a hero in his/her own right. Ironically, two of the family members magically became pests and were treated as such. These two main characters have become strangers in their own household! This element of discrimination is also a factor that human beings encounter on a daily basis. This is quite relevant in today’s world, especially in the U.S. recently, where many Americans are made to feel that they are strangers in their own neighborhoods. Unfortunately, in the real world, no magic can ultimately change these situations that are popping up so frequently. The language used is conversational and is quite easy to understand. The author’s positive ending of the book made room for a possible sequel to be developed. This book is a joy to read and I recommend it to all young readers.

Come Fly With Me, is the fourth book in the Super Speed Sam series and author’s imagination really comes through in this fun, adventure fantasy where Molly (the young girl in the family) and Sam are both transformed into flies. As they both buzz around the house, trying to avoid being ‘swatted’, I can see parents and children both laughing and becoming quite excited by the story line in this story.
