Koa and the Nebulous is a children's sci-fi adventure by T.I. Avens. At the Bellflower Ranger Station on the planet of Galauthus, Koa Sapspark and the rest of the crew of Zephyr's Oath from the North Sector are fully prepared for their next mission. However, their ranger slates have been blanked, and somehow, they are missing out on claiming missions. Additionally, a mysterious ally warns them from taking any high-level missions. After the crew of Roaring Delta runs into trouble on one of their missions in the world of Helianthus, Koa and her ranger colleagues take it upon themselves to save them. On a stolen ship, they eventually rescue the crew of Roaring Delta. But now they must deal with a broken robot and return home to find the station's saboteur.
This book is entertaining from start to finish. Jam-packed with action, mystery, and intrigue, Koa and the Nebulous takes the young reader on a rollercoaster ride through space. You can't predict anything while reading this book. The twists and turns are constant, and the reveals are dramatic, to say the least. T.I. Avens weaves a genuinely absorbing plot, in which each chapter feels like a new adventure. I loved the fact that none of the characters is human. The fantastic alien creatures, as well as the blend of genres between sleuth/mystery and space action-adventure, made this a thoroughly entertaining read for me. I'm sure young readers are going to love this book. Koa and Jasper were my favorite characters. But I enjoyed the personalities of all the rangers, and even the "roll," Irvin. All in all, this will appeal to both children and young adult science fiction readers.
