Author Biography

Alice DiNizo writes under her cat's name, J.B., so her books are listed on Amazon and Barnes and Noble as by "J.B. DiNizo". Why? Like most writers, Alice sees her books and their characters as her "children". When someone telephones her home demanding to know why she created a certain character or story line, the response is always, "Thanks so much for calling but J.B. can't come to the phone right now!"
Alice says she'd have a fit if twelve pound, laid-back J.B., an orange tabby, did respond to a telephone query. Raised in Vermont, Alice admits to being a free-thinker and radical, but owning a talking cat is a bit too much to consider.
Surviving a rather rough childhood, Alice writes stories about people overcoming life's obstacles as her payback to a higher power and the good friends who stood by her through difficult times. She lives at the New Jersey shore with her husband, dog and cats and admits her loves are her family, her children and grandchildren, gardening, old Volvos and friendly people.

This is the story of two brothers born in Liverpool, England, in the early 1800s. Lem was a kind boy and had no desire to hurt a creature. Abel was cruel and took delight in hurting any living thing. Their childhood was harsh. Their mother was a whore. After committing a terrible crime, they escaped to America where they continued their life as criminals. Eventually they each go their own way. Abel continued his life of crime until he was shot and left unable to walk. Lem changed his name to Samuel and headed west with a group of Quakers.

Together the men were dangerous, but once separated, they each had a change of heart. Abel turned to praying for others, and Lem repented of his sins. He returned to New Jersey to discover he had a daughter.

For every action there is a reaction. Every decision we make throughout our lives affects someone. It took the Baker brothers a long time to figure that out. The story continues on through the offspring of Lem. Each person has their own story, but the stories are connected as though they are woven threads. Barren Pines, New Jersey, and the Bakers are the connecting threads. The tale continues through to present time.

Comings and Goings: The Story of the New Jersey Pine Barrens has a plot with much potential. It is the story of a family: where did they come from and where are they going? At times I was confused by a scene shift. The shifts seem to lack a smooth flow. However, I loved the plot. The author explores the relationship of two brothers and how that relationship is carried on for generations to come. The author skillfully demonstrates there is hope for everyone. We can change, and we are never too old to face change. God offers second chances.
