Author Biography

Lisa Fox is a pharmaceutical market researcher by day and fiction writer by night. She enjoys crafting short stories across genres, but her passion is for Sci-Fi/Drama hybrids. For Lisa, there's no greater thrill than creating something out of nothing, in transforming life’s ‘what ifs’ to prose that flashes a mirror on the human condition. As a writer, nothing makes her happier than having readers say her work made them feel something or look at the world in a different way.

Lisa won the 2018 NYC Midnight Short Screenplay competition, placed third in the 2018 NYC Midnight Flash Fiction contest, and secured an Honorable Mention in the 2020 competition. Her fiction has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize and Best Small Fictions. Her work is featured in various publications, including Uncharted, Dark Matter, Bards and Sages Quarterly, Metaphorosis, Theme of Absence, Luna Station Quarterly, New Myths, and Brilliant Flash Fiction, among others, as well as in various anthologies.

A resident of New Jersey in the USA, Lisa survives--and sometimes, thrives--amid the chaos of everyday suburban life. She and her husband are kept busy raising two teenage sons and adhering to the demands of their double-doodle dog.

Lisa Fox's Core Truths is a collection of 18 short stories that traverse the realms of sci-fi, fantasy, and horror. In a futuristic dystopia where people are allocated a specific amount of time to live, a man and his young son encounter an "elderly" at the park who defies all conventions. A mother refuses to let go of the hope of reuniting with her long-lost son, who went missing on the nearby lake. A young woman on a remote moon settlement battles to bring her people to a suitable outcome. Forced into a life of servitude, a woman calls in a favor from a Sea Elf and becomes a beacon of hope to her people. Sent off-world to bring back a rare metal to save her home planet, a metallurgist struggles with her conscience to complete her mission.

Almost all the stories in Core Truths end with an ambiguous climax, and the characters find themselves in situations where their choices have monumental consequences for the future. This is an ambitious and enthralling short story collection suitable for a diverse range of readers. You will find tales offering a diversity of genres, all adding their flavors in varied measures. It makes for a collection that feels distinct and imaginative, encouraging you to contemplate the complexities of human behavior in the face of adversity. Through her stories, Lisa Fox also explores the moral dilemmas that come with being human. I thoroughly enjoyed the book, and if you're a short story lover or a fan of sci-fi and fantasy, this is the perfect book for you.
