In Quill Holland’s Corrupted Race, years after the Horror is destroyed, and Project RESTORE rebuilds humanity’s damaged worlds, Raith lives on Gaia with his children after having once been Tynan Khidar, the emperor whose identity was overwritten. His attempt at farming is interrupted when the Caezors, an ancient telepathic species, invade Gaia and seize control of its population. Raith, Ichirō, and Emma prove resistant to their influence and escape, beginning a search for a way to oppose an empire that already controls much of the galaxy. Raith turns to technology he buried after creating the Republic, including the mass conversion device, while recurring visions draw him toward another source of help. His search brings him into contact with an extraterrestrial resistance and forces him to recover suppressed memories from his life as Tynan. As the Caezors expand their control, Raith must decide how much of his former power he is willing to reclaim once again.
Quill Holland’s Corrupted Race: Book 3 of The Forgotten Saga is an excellent psychological space opera, with a futuristic world that feels inhabited and ideas rooted in character. I love how alien communication works, especially when Trovexis transfers language through an orb interface into translation devices worn by members of the interspecies assembly, giving advanced technology an everyday practicality. Raith is fascinating as the former Emperor Tynan Khidar, since every recovered ability carries the memory of what he once did with it. His bond with Ichirō gives those questions a familial edge and brings warmth to the larger galactic conflict. Rebellion engineers later combine Caezor nullifier machinery with miniaturized human systems to create portable mechanisms that interrupt telepathic enslavement, extending the science in a satisfying direction. The pacing moves smoothly as interstellar politics widen the story’s reach. Readers who enjoy character-led speculative fiction with inventive extraterrestrial civilizations will adore this.
