Count to Ten by Raul Quintana Selleras is about Evan Morris, an ordinary man. Evan wakes up tied to a chair in a dark, abandoned warehouse. He was kidnapped by the "Chaos Killer" for a twisted psychological game. In front of Evan are ten numbered boxes, and to escape, he must open each one. Every box had a specific, deeply personal relic from Evan’s past. As he opens the boxes, a dark history of him and his identical twin brother, Ryan, appears. Every opened box turns Evan’s survival into an exhausting, intellectually challenging race against time. The objects inside are tied to buried secrets, old sins, and long-forgotten traumas. Evan’s psychological endurance is tested just as much as his physical will to live.
Count to Ten by Raul Quintana Selleras was an extraordinary book. I was hooked from the first page until the last. I turned the pages as fast as I could to see what would happen to Evan. The ten-box storyline was unique and made me curious about what Evan would have to endure. The pace was fast at times, but it left me enough time to process everything. It was difficult to put the book down, and I was afraid I would miss something important. Evan felt realistic, and every character had a specific role in the plot. I had to know if Evan would survive and what the boxes were about. The book was expertly written, dark, tense, and challenging. It was more than I expected, and I pondered it long after I finished.
