Counting Toasters 1 to 10, written and illustrated by Haley McAndrews, is an amusing children’s picture book designed to teach children how to count. In this book, we will discover that toasters are exciting creatures as they play and go about their daily lives while readers can count along up to ten and back down again. I find the personification of the toaster a unique and original idea. The story is simple but grabs our attention. The toaster tale is told in easy-to-remember rhymes with uncluttered and colorful illustrations. It is fun to imagine one little toaster relaxing in a creek, two little toasters in a game of hide-and-seek, three little toasters stack up so tall, four little toasters rolling a ball, and five little toasters eating toasty treats!
Haley McAndrews’s Counting Toasters 1 to 10 has all the elements of a great picture book. The story is imaginative and funny, and the language is simple. The flow is logical, and the rhyme and rhythm relaxing. An award-winning artist, Haley McAndrews’s illustrations successfully set the tone, focusing mainly on the toasters and their activities. It’s a reminder that sometimes less can be more. This story is not only intended to teach and entertain but also to inspire the imagination of young readers. A perfect bedtime story for children of all ages, Counting Toasters 1 to 10 will induce a good night’s sleep. And for adults, reading this book is the best alternative to counting sheep on a sleepless night. Highly recommended!
