COVID-19 by Michelle Cole is a work of non-fiction from a Christian point of view. In it, the author presents the idea that COVID-19 should be a wake-up call to the world, Christians and non-Christians alike, to examine their lives, their souls, and their relationship to God. Cole offers Bible verses to back up her idea that God is in control, and is responsible for sending a pestilence that we call COVID-19. She writes that God is trying to get our attention, to have us drop our idolatry and sin, and put Him first in our lives, instead of careers, leisure, and outward-looking. The Bible verses she offers are from the Old Testament and the New Testament. She gives biblical examples of how God used plagues in history as punishment or to accomplish His will.
Cole has a no-nonsense style of writing; an earnest call to look to God and recognize Him as the source and answer to all things. This style is reminiscent of a passionate preacher giving a call from the pulpit. Besides talking about how COVID-19 has changed the world, the author offers Bible verses to uplift and encourage, stressing the point that the world needs to turn to the Creator, and to Jesus Christ for salvation; that this world is only temporary and we must prepare for eternity. The author also includes Bible verses that offer comfort in times of trouble, fear, sickness, and stress. She shows how prominent people in the Bible were not perfect, yet God loved them nevertheless, and used them for His will, just as He does with people today. One major takeaway is that COVID-19 shouldn't have to mean a death sentence, depression, or confusion. It can be a path toward peace, God's love, and salvation through Jesus Christ. If you're looking to expand your thinking on COVID-19 from a biblical perspective, and don't mind a blunt, evangelical delivery, COVID-19 by Michelle Cole is a must-read.
