When dime store operator Dottie Arnez saves a man from a burning plane, her boring life on the brink of a mid-life crisis is filled with excitement. Verna Clay’s new book, Crashed in Oasis, is the story of professional treasure hunter Collin on his latest quest to locate a missing treasure rumored to be in Oasis. When his plane crashes and he is pulled to safety by Dottie, they both must stay a step ahead of nosy newscasters and bloodthirsty reporters intent on getting a story. After recuperating in Oasis, Collin invites Dottie to his Key West home where they soak up the sun and bask in their new-found closeness. But it turns out Collin’s plane crash may not have been so accidental and he’s unwilling to let anyone take him away from Dottie, now that he’s finally found her.
I found Crashed in Oasis a fantastic read with a great love story and the perfect amount of suspense. Leave it to Verna Clay to throw in a bit of treasure hunting just to keep the reader guessing. I have to say I loved Dottie and Collin together because on the surface they are so different; she’s a wallflower and he’s larger than life. But it’s lovely because they each see so much more than that in the other person. The evolution of their relationship is more mature, perhaps due to age, and that makes it feel more authentic. In their mid-forties, neither Dottie nor Collin are looking for “the one,” but they seem to fall into easy companionship that transforms into gentle love - thanks to time and shared interests. Crashed in Oasis is exciting, fun and romantic!
