Cristiano Ronaldo (Scouted!): A Sports Biography for Young Soccer Fans by Magnus Lundgren is a fast-paced biography of one of the greatest soccer players of all time. The book mainly uses narrative, with added stats and analysis that help explain football (soccer) terminology. It is aimed at middle school readers, but I believe high school students and older audiences would also enjoy it. The author is clearly passionate about the sport, and that enthusiasm shows on every page. The excitement is contagious as he details the events that shaped this man’s legendary career. The book combines history, life lessons, and encouragement for readers. Whether football is your second language or you have little experience with it, the book explains concepts clearly, making them easy to understand. It is well-written and fast-paced.

The pages draw you in and keep your interest. I especially liked the lesson about adopting a mindset of “shoot the goal” rather than “don’t mess this up!"—that really stuck with me. I also appreciate that, even though Cristiano is a legend, the book doesn’t shy away from showing his mistakes and flaws. It assures readers that you don’t have to be perfect to be a great athlete. This adds balance, humanizing the legend while highlighting the person's real qualities. It also challenges those aspiring to greatness in sports, since Cristiano is incredibly driven, maintains a strict diet, and always aims to improve. Cristiano Ronaldo (Scouted!) by Magnus Lundgren is a great read for anyone interested in sports and looking for inspiring examples from the athletic world. I highly recommend it.

Cristiano Ronaldo (Scouted!) by Magnus Lundgren follows the story of Cristiano Ronaldo from his early life on the small island of Madeira to becoming one of the world’s greatest football players. The book tells Ronaldo’s story through three different voices: a scout named Enzo Gatto, a stats expert called “The Professor,” and a skills coach named Nina Cruz. It shows how Ronaldo, who grew up barefoot with almost nothing, worked harder than anyone else to progress professionally. It talks about the hard parts too—his homesickness, bullying, injuries, and losing his dad—along with his rise through Sporting CP, Manchester United, and Real Madrid. You also see his records, his famous goals, and how he leads the Portugal national team. Overall, the book really shows that becoming a great football player isn’t just about talent—it’s about growth.

Cristiano Ronaldo (Scouted!) by Magnus Lundgren is a fascinating and engaging children’s book. The combination of stories, stats, and tactical tips made me notice Ronaldo's resilient spirit even more. I love how the illustrations and charts helped explain his skills without making the book seem cumbersome. I liked that it didn't just talk about his big wins, but showed all the struggles he went through. That made me respect how much effort and dedication he put into getting better as a football player. The voices of the scout, the coach, and the stats expert gave the story a fun and lively feel—almost like you were learning from different people at once. It was inspiring to actually see how much effort and focus Ronaldo put into improving himself, and it made me reflect on how I also tackle life's challenges. The book ends on a high note that makes you excited to see what he does next.

Cristiano Ronaldo (Scouted!) by Magnus Lundgren takes young readers back to the island of Madeira, where Ronaldo grew up in a small home in Funchal with his mother Maria Dolores and father José Dinis, whose job at the local club Andorinha first placed a football at his feet. The story follows the decision that sent twelve-year-old Ronaldo alone to Lisbon to join Sporting CP, where talent director Aurélio Pereira recognized his ability and where the teenager made his way into professional football. When a friendly match against Manchester United puts him in front of manager Sir Alex Ferguson, his path toward the world stage begins.

Magnus Lundgren’s Cristiano Ronaldo (Scouted!) is an unofficial biography and part of a series in which Lundgren brings some of the world's most famous athletes to young readers. As a parent, it's sometimes difficult to explain to a child how much work goes into being an elite athlete. While the author shows where Ronaldo comes from, which is nowhere near the wealth he has today, his hard work is clear. Veteran scout Enzo is a great guide from Paris to Madeira to Lisbon, and he's so conversational in how he speaks that it's easy to follow the journey. The author effectively pairs match drama with scouting language, then adds sections like “By the Numbers,” which chart Ronaldo's course and sharpen his portrait. Young readers get a version of Ronaldo that is accessible and educational, in addition to learning about talent seen from the touchline, the dormitory, the training ground, and some of the greatest pitches in the world. Recommended.
