In Cutting Right to the Chase, Chase Williams is an import/export executive at Ernesto Ceccarelli’s Cashmere in Turnesia, a beautiful medieval city in Italy. Yet, as a former officer of Scotland Yard, he’s always at the right time and the right place to stop crime. Written by Stefania Mattana, there are six exciting detective stories of 1000 words each, where Chase deals with a series of mostly minor but troubling offences: illegal business operations, thieving teenagers at the mall, and even work together on a case with his childhood friend, Inspector Angelo Alunni of the Turnesian police force.
I loved the way Chase Williams deals with each bizarre crime situation. As a Brit living the Italian life, he fits in quite well. Stefania Mattana definitely has the talent, judging from the exciting and creative material that comprises the six detective stories. It is absolutely convenient if you want a quick, entertaining read that has the beginning and the ending in a thousand words. Each story is given an interesting plot with a somewhat bizarre but familiar crime.
The writing style is simple and shows Mattana’s effort with English as a second language at times. Yet, this is done with great skill and each story is delivered to the readers successfully. I consider both Cutting Right to the Chase and author Stefania Mattana as hidden gems. I truly enjoyed this fun detective piece and would like to read more from the talented Mattana. Highly recommended to all readers; you won’t be disappointed.
