Cybersecurity by Justin K. Kojok begins with the evolution of cybersecurity, rooted in the CIA triad: Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability. Kojok traces developments from basic password protection to AI-based defenses, covering tools like firewalls, encryption, and Zero Trust models. Kojok categorizes threats such as viruses, worms, Trojans, ransomware, APTs, and insider risks, speaking on tactics like phishing and Ransomware-as-a-Service. He discusses vulnerabilities from IoT, 5G, and quantum computing, and proposes countermeasures like post-quantum cryptography. Kojok talks about strategies, including risk assessments, layered controls, threat monitoring, compliance with standards like NIST RMF and GDPR, and promoting security awareness. The economic impact of cybercrime is discussed, covering direct and indirect costs, insurance, ROI, how the dark web enables illicit trade, and emphasizing collaboration and blockchain analysis to combat cybercriminal networks.

Cybersecurity by Justin K. Kojok is an expertly written deep dive into an evolving landscape of digital threats and the strategies he recommends to secure information systems. The writing is precise and well-structured, making even the more complicated parts approachable to readers with little background knowledge, without being redundant to those coming in with a better understanding. It is crystal clear that Kojok teaches from a place of authority, extensive education, and experience in the field, and that his work is exhaustively researched. I found the information to be succinctly broken down into its foundational principles and advanced developments. From historical shifts to emerging technologies, Kojok covers so much, the standout and most helpful sections to me being on a layered defense and risk management. Overall, this is a reliable and highly informative resource for anyone invested in cybersecurity—which should be everybody. Very highly recommended.
