The truce with the colony still stands even though it is tenuous at best. Despite this, Izzy and Dawn are determined to see that Derek's sacrifice for the survival of the outsiders is not in vain. While they strategize how best to create a permanent peace with the help of the book, Nolan, a prominent leader of the Colony, schemes how he can recover the book and reclaim his hold on the Colony's council. Nolan attempts to ambush Izzy and Dawn but things do not go as planned and now he is injured and cut off from his troops. The only person that can help him is the one person he would rather not have anything to do with. Sworn enemies must work together if they are to prevent the destruction of their factions in Dawning 2: The Story of my Life by Josh Resinger.
The second book in the Dawning series by Josh Resinger is an emotional rollercoaster. Interpersonal relationships play a key part in understanding this fantastic adventure story. Nolan's attempts at building a reasonable rapport with a suspicious Dawn are puzzling when you consider the overall storyline. The peripheral characters are also fleshed out quite well, so much so that as the novel wore on I developed more than a passing interest in Crenshaw's motivations. The author's description of a post-apocalyptic planet and the various creatures that populate it adds to the excitement factor. The fight sequences are explained in such detail that the reader is immersed in the story. Dawning 2 is a must-read for science fiction genre lovers. The combination of an incredible plot with intriguing characters made for some entertaining reading.
