Jeff Binkley’s Dead Cat Bounce combines investment advice with the story of a thirty-year career spent working inside financial markets. The author begins with the decision to become a stockbroker after seeing Wall Street in 1987, then follows the path that eventually takes him to Charles Schwab and into independent advising. His experiences give readers a practical way to understand how people behave when money is involved, especially when markets move quickly or uncertainty takes over. The Pebbles of Wisdom bring those lessons into everyday financial decisions by connecting market history with situations the author has seen firsthand. Across the book, investing becomes less about chasing a perfect answer and more about understanding how decisions are made when prices shift and expectations change. The result is an approachable guide to thinking about money over time.
Jeff Binkley’s Dead Cat Bounce is a fantastic investment book for anyone who wants financial ideas explained in everyday language. The writing is direct and easy to follow, and I love how the author uses familiar situations to make investing easier to understand. Be the Chipmunk is a perfect example, using the birds around a backyard feeder to show how quickly investors can react when frightened, then using the chipmunk’s slower approach to illustrate patience. I also liked the comparison between Bitcoin and the seventeenth-century tulip craze, which gives readers a simple way to think about speculation and what people believe an asset is worth. It’s obvious that decades of market work have gone into this book, and as a fellow broker who was with JPMorgan Chase through the noughties, even I learned plenty of new tips. Well written and absolutely useful, readers looking for approachable investment advice will adore this.
