Death’s Despair by Dennis K Crosby is an urban fantasy with a remarkable protagonist and a story that will keep your heart pumping. Traci Leeds was making a wrong decision, and Kassidy was paying the price. Traci was the direct descendant of the witchcraft goddess and still had difficulty tapping into her magic. When things didn’t get better, Traci crossed the line and tapped into forbidden magic. Sadly, that meant Kassidy had her work cut out for her. Kassidy was taking care of her usual work as the Death God, but the chaos Traci created was making her job more difficult than it already was. However, in the grand scheme of things, Traci’s foray into forbidden magic took a backseat when Kassidy’s waking hours became plagued by visions of an apocalypse. Were her visions a premonition? Would Kassidy succeed, or was she destined for failure?

Death’s Despair is the third book in the Kassidy Simmons series by Dennis K Crosby. Kassidy’s character was fantastic. She was a true hero. She led from the front and gave readers something to cheer for. I loved her responses and how she stood her ground when facing the toughest of adversaries. Kassidy was struggling, but she pushed through until the end. I couldn’t hate Traci. Traci was a victim of circumstances and only reacted in the best way possible. I felt her pain, confusion, and desperation as she sought answers. The action was relentless and intense, something I was not expecting but loved just the same. Kassidy’s quest to find the lost souls and help them cross over felt cathartic and Kassidy was somewhat relieved every time a soul crossed over. Her development was on point, but so was Traci’s. I had a hard time deciding who was my favorite. I loved it all and cannot wait to start the next novel!
