In Deception: A Hollywood Mystery by Britt Lind, Josh Sibley, a singer-songwriter, has hopes of making it big one day. With good looks and lots of talent, he finds his personal road to stardom mired in rejections, manipulation, disappointment, and greed. Added to that is a troubling childhood background. Enter Lola Levy, the wife of a director - a smoking hot female in her early twenties with a weak singing voice. Her director/husband employs Josh to be her singing coach. Without giving too much away, a murder takes place and Josh and Lola are in the middle of it with the Beverly Hills police department on the case. We are introduced to Police Sergeant Rosemaria Baker, a beautiful yet cynical cop investigating the murder. Her partner is Detective Larry Coleman, a tall, dark and handsome type who is more than a shallow front as the two cops investigate the murder.
Deception: A Hollywood Mystery by Britt Lind gives the reader an insider’s look at the underbelly of Hollywood and the way men and women come with hopes and dreams, only to see them dashed. But that is not all this novel is about. Britt Lind populates her novel with well-rounded characters and a plot that clicks. She knows “the business” from years of experience as an actress, singer, and writer and it enhances her story. Deception has some twists and turns as any good mystery should have. The major characters are fleshed out nicely by Lind with unusual, somewhat disturbing and interesting backstories and the reader will enjoy the background of the Hollywood scene. The writing style keeps the reader engaged throughout. A story that is well worth your time.
