Descendant by A.L. Knorr is the first book in The Kacy Chronicles. All Jordan wants is a quiet weekend with her father, but nothing goes as planned. First, she gets into an argument with her father over her continued interest in her mother's disappearance. She can't let go of the past while she believes her mother is still alive somewhere. Then, her nanny appears to deliver a strange locket right before vanishing. Her life gets even stranger when she fiddles with the locket and a mysterious man named Sol appears from nowhere, crashing to the ground. In Jordan's attempt to help him, Sol ends up stealing her locket and while trying to stop him, she ends up following him into another world. Now she must rely on Sol as her only ally in this dangerous place if she's ever going to find answers about her mom or find her way home. First, they have to make the journey to get back his wings so he can deliver a message.

Jordan has an idealistic life. Being the daughter of a senator, she has her whole life planned out and great opportunities are hers for the taking, but nothing is as perfect as it seems. She's obsessed with finding answers about her mom whom her father has accepted as being dead. Her life changes with a literal crash when Sol ends up in her world after she inadvertently opens up a portal and pulls him through. The two don't get off to the best start. He loses his wings as result of the portal and he steals her locket, which pulls her into this dangerous other world. Sol's determination to stay on track with his important mission provides an internal conflict as he's torn between helping her and fulfilling his duty. They have different personalities that often clash. He's brisk and she's stubborn, so conflict often arises between the two. Dangers are everywhere with the biggest obstacle faced being the harpies which are vicious and dangerous. Their presence also brings forth a handsome savior whose presence could play a key part later on in the series.

Descendant is a quick read which leaves you wanting to see what happens next in a story full of surprises. Jordan's journey explores a detailed society with only a fraction of this world revealed. A.L. Knorr delivers an exciting adventure with action-packed moments and humor infused as Jordan is thrown into a new world where she meets handsome men, elves, and harpies, and uncovers secrets just waiting to be revealed.
