Shellie Nichol takes you on a scenic journey down the road called life in her book, Destination: Hope - A Guide Through Life’s Unexpected Journeys. When tragedy happens, when you face a detour or a fork in the road, how do you react? Hide? Get obstinate? Deny? Get angry? Throw a pity party? “Every moment of your life serves a purpose.” Even when we are knocked down, dirty and way off track, God is there. Each chapter contains preparation questions; these inquiries persuade you to think, feel and do. Destination: Hope allows you to face shame, gives you permission to be vulnerable, and motivates you to persevere through despair by stopping and beholding the beauty within the storm. “Finding beauty in your imperfections is what makes us perfect in God eyes.”
Shellie Nichol’s Destination: Hope - A Guide Through Life’s Unexpected Journeys is a refreshing, straight forward approach to life’s ups and downs, detours, and disastrous wrong turns. You know, those things that are meant to wreck our lives. It is simply written, yet designed for a powerful impact. Nichol doesn’t sugar coat tragedy. Bold and emphatic at times, she states, “if you don’t like the path you’re on, get off! She tells it like it is. She shares openly her story of pain, sorrow and shame, as well as stories of others from her talk show on Amazing Hope Radio. She states her goal is for the reader to have “hope so strong that nothing, absolutely nothing can keep you down.” Although the pages within this book are full of heartbreaking testimonies, it reads like a breeze – full of hope and fresh air. There were many heartfelt words of encouragement. My favorite is “God is not picking on you. However, He has picked you.” What good news!
