Author Biography

Carl Howe Hansen “grew up” during summers in Sandwich, NH, while living in many other places—from Swarthmore and Chadds Ford, PA to Port Clyde and Bethel, ME. He worked as a musician, skier, freelance writer, technician, contractor, and cabinetmaker, but writing was always on his mind. His first novel, Destiny, got off to a rough start. In 1978, while he wandered the bazaar of Tangier, Morocco, a knife-wielding thief stole his bag containing the first manuscript—handwritten before the time of digital copies. However, this was only one of many adventures he found on his journey to publication. Eventually, he settled in New England, returning to Sandwich, NH, to live and work, and to the coast of Maine to sail his boat. Along the way, he managed to find the lost words of Destiny and make them appropriate for today.

In a great new read by author Carl Howe Hansen, Destiny follows the brilliant Dr. Peter Peterson as he discovers a bacteria that just might be the solution to all of the problems that come along when an oil spill occurs. But when that bacteria is released before its time, it threatens to end all life as we know it. An exciting race to save the world ensues, and when human frailties of estrangement and anger between the two brothers most equipped to make a difference come into play, the drama intensifies even more. Readers will be sucked into Destiny from the very first page, and won't want to put it down until they've read every last word.

I so enjoyed Destiny. This story will keep readers on the edge of their seats, and will leave them both spent and satisfied. Author Carl Howe Hansen has done a fantastic job in creating characters that readers will relate to and connect with, and his scene setting abilities are second to none. The novel is full of action, and also begs the reader to consider questions of the world's ecological well being, as well as to think about the place of politics and policies when considering the fate of our environment. I highly recommend Destiny to any reader who enjoys books with plenty of action, adventure, messages about the environment, or simply a great read. I very much look forward to reading more from author Carl Howe Hansen, and hope that he is already hard at work on his next book. If it's anything like Destiny, it will absolutely be worth the read.
