Doorway to Hell by Janet E Post is a well-written novel with a strong appeal to fans of urban fantasy. San Francisco is witnessing one of the greatest threats ever as rapacious vampires begin to flood in through an open doorway. Someone must stand up against these creatures of the night and unless the doorway is closed and quickly, humanity might be facing their worst nightmare ever. A Berserker, Konrad Pengill, and a Kung Fu Master, Lei Hua Jiang, hear the voice of the dragon in its egg, and this dragon egg found in the Himalayas becomes a clue to stopping the encroaching darkness. Follow a Norse Fighter, a Kung Fu Master, and a Queen Dragon as they embark on a powerful fight against the creatures of darkness to close the doorway.
Janet E Post has written a fascinating story and I enjoyed the atmospheric writing and the details that fill the pages when it comes to the elements of the setting. The prose is gorgeous and littered with engaging dialogues. The characters are compelling and sophisticated and I particularly enjoyed the fact that the heroes of these stories are pulled from different backgrounds. There are hints of Chinese culture when writing about the scenes where Lei Hua is involved. Konrad is a strong character as well, a fierce fighter with incredible physical strength and military experience. His background is traced to the Norse Berserkers, Alfer Ulfvarinn. Doorway to Hell is epic urban fantasy with memorable characters, a powerful conflict, and a plot that is original. The narrative is suspenseful, action-packed, and pulsating. A wonderful treat for fans of the genre.
