Down By The River, Where Dreams Come True by Apara Mahal Sylvester is the story of two kittens, Caz and Percy, who met down by the river where dreams come true. They had been the best of friends since kittenhood. They would meet every day down by the river and play games. Caz was orange in color and Percy was black and white. They were not bothered about their age or color and they would play with the frogs and butterflies, along with doing other things. They were such best friends that, when they were together, all one heard were purrs. One day a wall was built down by the river and Percy got stuck on the other side. Caz went every day, hoping to see Percy. Will they meet again?
It is a beautiful story of friendship written in verse and as the ending aptly says, 'Down by the river where dreams come true, You found me and I found you.' The illustrations are simple, neat, and elegant and make the scenes vivid to young readers. The rhyming verses give the story a good fluidity, pace, and movement and a lyrical vibe. Children will fall in love with the characters of Caz and Percy, and their friendship is tangible. This book is a good tool to introduce children to try writing rhyming verses and it is also a good bedtime storybook. It is perfect for poetry reading sessions in classrooms and school libraries where tutors and educators can introduce children to reciting verses.
