Drew the Dragon is different from most dragons of his age. He cannot fly or breathe fire. No matter how much effort he puts into it, he just cannot do it. He seeks advice from his mother about his failure to fly, but she assures him that where there is love, a miracle will happen. Drew asks his father about the lack of fire in his breath, and his father has the same response. In the presence of love, a miracle is bound to occur. Armed with the knowledge of love gained from his parents, Drew awaits his miracle of flight and fire. To find out if Drew will ever fly or breathe fire, read Drew the Dragon by Kalenga Augustine Mulenga.
I enjoyed reading this story because of its beautiful themes of family, friendship, miracles, and most importantly, love. Drew is an adorable character with a relatable personality. He wants to fit in, and we all aim for this in life, as nobody wants to be seen as the odd one out or a freak. His impatience is also another character trait many people possess, especially children. In Drew the Dragon, Kalenga Augustine Mulenga skillfully relates the message of patience and waiting for the right time. Another lesson prominent throughout the story is that of love. Drew is loved by his friends, who do not tease him but show concern for his predicament, and by his parents, who reassure him with loving words of encouragement. I loved the colorful and attractive illustrations because they will grab children's attention and keep them engaged. I cannot wait to read more of Mulenga's books. Brilliant work.
