Duck Duck Danger by Max Parrott is the first book in the Animal Cozy Mystery series. Angela Atkinson and her border collie Ruff McPaw live in the small town of Hummings Hollow, where Angela has a hobby farm and works part-time at the local coffee shop. One day as they are walking near the lake, Ruff smells something putrid which leads the two to discover a dead resident in the lake. As the daughter of a cop, Angela finds herself investigating the death and the recent theft of an expensive duck sculpture from an exhibit in a nearby town. Can Angela and Ruff solve the mystery or will this crime stump the local police and hobby farmer?
Duck Duck Danger by Max Parrott is a cute story to open the series. I loved the moments where we see what Ruff is thinking. The little side story of Angela’s niece setting her up on a date and how he became a part of the investigation and helped out was heartwarming. The moments with Angela’s family were sweet, and Parrott does a great job of showing how different each day can be with a family member struggling with something like dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. Cozy mystery fans who love stories with pet detectives will enjoy this book. I am looking forward to more adventures with Ruff McPaw.
