Duh! is a book written through the eyes of author Douglas Manley, who for ten years was a controller in the automotive dealership industry. From the large dealership to the Mom and Pop family-owned ones, he has seen most all that can go on. As a controller he saw everything that can make or break a business from the new and used cars, service and parts department on through the administration. When he asks why they do things a certain way, the standing answer is, ”That’s the way its always been done.” Grandpa started the business, mom and pop run it, so now it’s time for the kids to take over and try their marketing strategies of running a business.

I had mixed thoughts when I read this book. There were parts that were quite humorous and parts that were pretty dry and boring. As I read this book I found myself thinking that what goes on within automotive dealerships goes on within all businesses from the little Mom and Pop Grocery store to some of the largest corporate businesses around. There is a lesson in this book from which all business leaders could learn.
