E-Catalyst: Book I of the Quantum Earth Series by John O’Riley is a young adult science fiction adventure. Fifteen-year-old Jeremy and his older sister, Patricia, find their parents gone before their eyes in the brilliant flash of a “light event,” as meteors fall from a passing comet. The teens struggle through one challenge after another to be reunited with their parents, who communicate with them from a parallel reality, and to prevent the possible collapse of their own world. Plant and animal life mutate into new deadly variants which attack and kill humans. Jeremy and Patricia and two of their schoolmates contract an infectious contagion that spreads around the world and leaves survivors with various special powers or abilities of interest to the FBI and the military. Will our world survive?
E-Catalyst is an entertaining and engaging story packed full of exciting action, creative plot twists, suspense, and surprises from the first chapter. O’Riley builds from one unbelievable event to the next, until it all seems very believable. Jeremy begins as an average student with little of a serious nature, but then shows increasing levels of maturity, capability, determination, and courage. Patricia, whose intellectual abilities mirror those of their scientific parents, is a good partner for her brother, as she introduces analysis and logic into the equation. Their two schoolmates provide powers and abilities the four of them need as they jump from the frying pan into the fire, and then do it again and again. An exciting story for all fans of science fiction and adventure!
