Echoes of Dark and Light is another epic fantasy installment from The Damien Blackwell Chronicles by Lee Alexander. Damien Blackwell is a man trapped between the living and the incorporeal. His only love in life remains his beloved Vivian, a healer plagued by trauma due to supernatural events that have set her on a course to search for him. Meanwhile, the Sovereign of Shadows and their Generals continue to dominate each layer of Hell, one after the other, seeking to sever the thread dividing the demonic and the mortal world. As children begin to vanish, Damien comes to the grim realization that he might be humanity's last hope against the sinister schemes of Anthrax, the Undying Humlis, and the lethal Nekhterion. Will he ever reunite with Vivian?
For such a short novella, author Lee Alexander has crafted a riveting epic fantasy tale filled with fully-fledged battle sequences, world lore, and a whole host of magical and monstrous creatures. There is not a single dull moment in the entire book. You never know what to expect as each chapter brings a new set of characters and plot threads that have greater ramifications for the larger narrative. The plot twists and turns, and pulls the rug away from under your feet, over and over and over again. I suggest readers take note of the names of the various characters featured in the book. The cast is large, and every character has an important role to play in the narrative. Overall, Echoes of Dark and Light is an action-packed tale that I highly recommend to fantasy lovers.
