Egyptian Cat Goddess: The Rise of Bastet by T.S. Cherry is another beautiful story that will enthrall fans of Egyptology. In the ruins of Egypt, the archaeologist Gregory Malachove and his team discover a find that could be cause for a lot of controversy, an ancient book featuring old hieroglyphs that are undecipherable, but curiously Gregory can understand some of it. Deciphering the texts brings them to one unmissable conclusion: Bastet, the ancient Goddess of Egypt is rising, and this could mean more than expected. This is a story fraught with dangers, ancient Egyptian mythology, and lore.

T.S. Cherry has done her homework and has masterfully given life to myth, taking readers into a world where gods rule among men. I enjoyed the world the author creates, filled with mystery and surprises that readers couldn’t anticipate. The structure of the story enables an enjoyable read, with short chapters constructed around well-imagined scenes. Egyptian Cat Goddess: The Rise of Bastet reminded me a lot of The Mysteries of Osiris by Christian Jacq. The writing is fluid and the narrative voice is clear.

Readers will enjoy the symbolism construed around the ancient Egyptian culture and beliefs. T.S. Cherry’s characters are real, and the gods feel like they inhabit the same world with humans. There is a lot to enjoy in this story, a perfect blend of fantasy and fiction; it is fast-paced and gripping. One of those books you can’t put aside once started, especially if you are a fan of stories that explore myths and ancient traditions.
