Charlotte Woodland’s Eight Weeks features Chloe Moore, a dental assistant who is unsure about her life's purpose. Randolph Dunne is a patient at the dental clinic, and Chloe is fascinated by his perfect teeth. Unbeknownst to her, he too has an interest in her, but his motives are more sinister. Randolph is a serial killer who tortures his victims to test their resistance in the pursuit of human progress. Using hypnosis and drugs, his subjects have eight weeks to endure his tests. He has many aliases and disguises, but among the authorities, he is known as The German. His distinctive trademark when murdering his victims is antique German marbles that he leaves in their mouths. While on a solo vacation, Chloe is abducted, and no one notices her disappearance. The German is surprised by her resilience, and a distorted bond develops between them. Meanwhile, Detective Ronald Grayson has also been a victim of The German and has a special interest in being on a manhunt to find Chloe before the eight weeks are up.

Eight Weeks is a gripping psychological thriller with an intricate and suspenseful plot. Charlotte Woodland’s narrative cleverly exposes the intricate psyche of the serial killer and the warped Stockholm Syndrome bond that develops between captor and victim. Furthermore, the author has delved deep into character development, showcasing their strengths and weaknesses in realistic ways. Chloe is a likable character, and despite the killer's sadistic nature, you almost admire the creativity and effort he puts into his disguises for his mission. Moreover, you are curious and even hopeful as to how he will elude capture. A well-paced novel, Eight Weeks will keep you intrigued about the unfolding events of imprisonment and high-stakes scenarios. Fans of psychological-themed stories, serial killer mind games, and tense police detective themes will find this an intriguing read.
