Electromancer is a fantasy novel written by Daco. Alexa Manchester was following in her father's footsteps by finishing his pet project. The Magpie generator, which he projected would be the green energy source to finally solve the energy crisis that had the entire planet in its grip, was finally complete. Her company, The Manchester Electric Company, provided electrical power to most of the planet through conventional means, but The Magpie would revolutionize power production. At the heart of The Magpie was a meteorite Mickey Manchester had collected from the nearby Mullgany Mountains. The grand opening of The Magpie was a huge and highly anticipated event; the company's Board of Directors, the Mayor, and all the notables of Kensington City were waiting when Alexa arrived with her assistant, Sigfred Sawyer, acting as chauffeur. After her speech, Alexa signaled to the waiting engineers to power up The Magpie while the crowd cheered, but the festivities were soon interrupted by a massive explosion and ensuing chaos. The city's power blinked out and panic-stricken guests fled the scene. Alexa knew she had to go into the generator room and assess the damage. It's what her father would have done, and she wanted no one else to shoulder the responsibility. What happened in that room would change her life.

Daco's romantic superhero fantasy, Electromancer, is clever, action-packed and an all-around hoot to read. Alexa and her valet/chauffeur/butler, the very proper Sigfred, are marvelous main characters in this near-future comedy of manners. The author's superheroes are authentic and creative, especially the descriptions of the crystal-like tones of the enchanting Electromancer. Daco's characters display the classic angst surrounding any superhero; thoughts of sacrificing one's dreams for the greater good compete with romantic feelings that are just too strong to resist. The villains in this piece are likewise larger than life and equally imaginatively drawn. As I read Electromancer, I found myself hoping that some graphic artist would discover it and collaborate with the author on a graphic novel version. When it happens, I'm certainly looking forward to reading it. In any event, I'm looking forward to reading more about Kensington City's superhero and enjoying some of her future adventures. Electromancer is most highly recommended.
