Tom Brodie is a partner in the prestigious English law firm of Broadbent, Hollingworth & Maunsell. Senior partner Hollingworth is off in Scotland, so it is Tom Brodie who has to deal with the law firm of Gerald Carlisle whose pedigree and money go back centuries. Tom travels to Carlisle's manor house set in Cotswold parkland and finds that Gerald Carlisle wants him to approach his daughter's intended, artist Kit Fairfax. Brodie's job is to buy him off with a large sum of money, thus preventing Fairfax from marrying Emmy Carlisle, Gerald's twenty-three years old daughter and heiress to great family wealth. Then Tom Brodie meets beautiful Emerald "Emmy" Carlisle who is a bit of an escape artist. Tom first sees the heiress as she is shimming down the drainpipe from the second floor manor nursery where her father has locked her in for the time being. Emmy takes Tom's car, keys, and money on numerous occasions as they head to France where Kit Fairfax currently lives. What Tom doesn't plan upon is falling in love with Emmy.
"Eloping with Emmy" is a delightful romp of a romance that will delight readers everywhere. Tom and Emmy do end up together but this novel is developed nicely and their coming together is not a given deal, except in the minds of readers who will read eagerly to the story's happy conclusion. The plot line proceeds with entanglements here and there as Emmy makes off once more with Tom's keys, money and eventually, his heart. That this is a large print edition will make it nice for readers with limited vision who still enjoy their romance reads.
