In C. Becker's medical thriller Embracing Euphoria, Hailey Langley is nearly killed by Manuel Mendoza in the spring, but she agrees to help when Colleen, his ex-girlfriend, asks. Mendoza had taken Rose, his and Colleen’s five-year-old daughter, and Hailey and Colleen intended to snatch her from Mendoza. Hailey discovered the hard way that Colleen could not be trusted when they were captured, as CIA agent David Smith had warned her. When David was unable to reach Hailey, he called her husband, Mark. After being abused and set on fire by Mendoza’s men, Mark decided it would be best for Hailey if he avoided her while he recovered from his injuries. Dr. Bruce Hanover researched the Euphoria plant, and Mark was hopeful that this drug could heal his scars.
Embracing Euphoria by C. Becker was a gripping and heart-pounding medical thriller. The plot captivated me from the very beginning, and I was intrigued until the end. The story was fast-paced and filled with action and suspense. I was unable to put it down, too anxious to miss anything. The constant twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat, never knowing what to expect next. The characters were well-developed, each with a background story. Hailey was a strong and stubborn woman who pulled all the strings to allow her to accompany Mark on treatment sessions. The writing was excellent and went beyond my expectations. I enjoyed reading the story, and it is the best novel I have read this year.
