Embracing Peace: Stories from the World's Faith Traditions by Rev. Vicki Michela Garlock, Ph.D. is a collection of 16 stories with beautiful illustrations by Raman Bhardwaj and Stacy Gray. The author has compiled stories about characters who belong to different ethnicities and religions. Each story has a new character and different setting, but the message remains the same: peace. The author takes young readers and adults on a journey around the world and through time to help them understand different religions. Apart from learning about peace and love, readers get a closer look at different faiths from all over the world.

The author is a reverend, so she has a lot of information about Christianity; however, she did go above and beyond to understand different religions and the impact social and geographical factors have on people. Considering the fact that this collection is for young readers, the author has taken a much-needed step toward instilling religious tolerance in the minds of children when they are young and impressionable. The author keeps the narrative simple yet very entertaining. It has easy-to-read stories that have a huge impact on readers’ minds. I can imagine parents reading a story or two to their little ones before bed and educating them about religious tolerance from an early age. The illustrations are perfect and reflect the subject matter of the story. Well done, Rev. Vicki Michela Garlock, Ph.D.
