Escape From Titan is an action-packed fantasy novel by Wil Chan. Elysia Dayne blames herself for her complacency in the dragon-slaying job outside Redwood Village. After her spymaster friend, Kailin Song, invites her to Titan City, Elysia reluctantly accepts. Elysia had previously killed a nobleman named Collin Harrington-Crossley in Titan City, trying to save the lives of a poor father and his daughter. He was the leader of the dreaded Black Guard crime syndicate. But Kailin assures her that Lord Statham, ruler of the fiefdom, has dismantled the Black Guard. Upon her arrival in the city, however, Elysia is almost poisoned by a courtesan. She soon discovers that Collin's daughter, Adela, has taken over the Black Guard and seeks revenge on her father's killer. With Adela's men and her hellhounds on her trail, can Elysia survive Titan City?
Suspense, action, and mystery lace every page of Escape From Titan. The first thing you notice is the atmospheric setting. Author Wil Chan has built a fully realized fantasy world that feels lived-in, with character backstories and lore dropped in for the reader, alongside timely twists and turns. The pacing really impressed me. The protagonist is always on the move, and at the end of every chapter, there's always something new for her to chase or flee from. There's absolutely no fluff in this book. I found Elysia to be a fascinating character. She is completely ruthless and never hesitates to destroy her enemies using her exceptional fighting skills. However, there were also moments when she empathized with others and showed mercy, and it only made me like her more. All in all, it's a treat for fantasy fans.
