Ever since the human population moved into space and made a home on the moon and Mars, the struggle for wealth and power in the new space colonies had become the order of the day. Among the armies and private operatives ready for hire to do the bidding of the wealthy men who craved more money and power, Cain was the best freelance mercenary on the market. Cain had known nothing but the dangerous lifestyle of a mercenary since his birth, but all this changes when he meets Francesca Pieralisi, the Mayor of Venice, Italy, and the love of his life. Francesca forces Cain to switch to a less dangerous line of work or risk losing her. Just when Cain is ready to abandon his job for the woman he loves, Francesca is forced to go on the run by Vicenzo Da Avolo, a former crime lord. Apparently, while it was clear Da Avolo was after Francesca for destroying his syndicate in the city, the whole affair was a political ploy to disrupt the mayor’s involvement in an important project. Right from the start, I was treated to high-octane action as Cain risks his life to accomplish one score after another, leaving no room for a single dull moment in the story. The subtle tone of the storyline had me on the edge of my seat. Seth’s way of splitting all the action into different chapters gave a beautiful flow and made the reading experience feel like watching a crime action TV series. It only got better with the vivid depictions. The well-crafted cast’s complex traits and emotions are brought out well, allowing me to connect with them. Cain is a savvy, shrewd, undaunted, daring, big-hearted, stealthy, and adventurous character you will relish.
