Eve Duncan’s mother was a drug addict. She’d do anything for a fix. Eve was more mature than her mother; she worked hard, went to school and had plans for her future. Then she met John Gallo who appointed himself Eve’s protector. There was a strong sensual attraction between them, and Eve resisted as long as possible, but eventually her emotions were stronger than her resolve. John left for the army and Eve gave birth to a miracle, Bonnie. Bonnie changed everyone’s life. She brought out the good in them.

Bonnie was about seven years old when she disappeared. Eve was frantic searching for her. It was believed that a serial killer murdered her, and Eve became obsessed with finding her daughter’s remains. She returned to school and learned forensic reconstruction.

Eve was shocked when John showed up in her life again. She’d been told he died in Korea. He was looking for Bonnie’s killer.

I’ve long been a fan of Iris Johansenn, and her Eve Duncan series has been my favorite. Eve is the first in a trilogy that offers closure. The next two books are Quinn and Bonnie. I’m terrified that one of the characters I’ve grown to love is going to die in this trilogy.

The characters in this book are well-developed: John Gallo, Bonnie’s father and a man we are not sure we can trust; Paul Black, a man of pure evil whose greatest pleasure comes from murdering little girls; Queen, who is filled with greed and has no conscious; and Joe, desperate to protect Eve and perhaps a bit afraid of losing her to Gallo. Eve finally realizes she has held a part of her back from Joe. Catherine also returns in this book. She is loyal to Eve.

I do not want to give away too much of the plot. It was exciting and possibly the best book Johansen has ever written. The cover is well done and hints at what lies inside. Eve is a thriller filled with high action, suspense, thrills and only a tad of romance. It is sad to think only two more books and this series will end, but at last Eve will have closure and so will all of her fans.
