Face-to-Face, Eye-to-Eye: How to Read Faces for Success by Sherry Lane and Richard A. Lacey Ed.D is an informative book on how to read body language. The authors state in the introduction that by reading this book: “You will learn to “see” emotions and attitudes, personality and characters traits by reading faces.” The book starts with the art of reading faces, along with what emotions, intentions, and feelings that most people “wear” with their expression. The book teaches readers how to tell when someone is happy, angry, surprised, etc. just by viewing their facial expressions and body language. Detecting when someone is dangerous, being manipulative and/or deceitful is also covered. There are several “exercise” sections throughout the book where readers can practice the material learned in real life.
I found Face-to-Face, Eye-to-Eye: How to Read Faces for Success to be an educational read. I can see how someone looking to improve their aptitude for reading people’s facial expressions and body language would find this book beneficial. I think the “exercise” sections as well as the numerous color pictures throughout the book complemented the narrative. Learning to read people’s moods and intentions could be a very valuable ability in professions such as teaching, sales, retail and any other customer-centric environment. While most people can “read” moods to an extent, Face-to-Face, Eye-to-Eye: How to Read Faces for Success by Sherry Lane and Richard A. Lacey Ed.D lays out the information for readers in an easy-to-follow format, as well as providing full color pictures to illustrate the stated facial expressions and body language.
