When five tons of gold bullion are hijacked and stolen on the streets of London, DCI Shepherd and DS Mendoza go in pursuit of answers and suspects. Their hunt leads them to Rafe Miller, one of the two drivers of the armored vehicle transporting the gold. Miller is found in bed at his house, high on opioids and lying next to the lifeless body of his wife. He seems to have no recollection of the recent happenings, including the heist and the murder. But why is his face all over the CCTV footage? While no one can make sense of the situation, the authorities proceed with trying and incarcerating Miller. However, another murder involving two rival crime lords rocks the city, and the two sleuths are shocked by its similarity to the first case. As they follow clues to solve the developing mystery, they find themselves entangled in a web of deceit and crime, and at its heart is a cunning master of disguise. Discover more in Henry Farley’s Faceoff.
Lovers of crime novels blended with adventure, thrills, and high-stakes drama will find Henry Farley’s Faceoff an enthralling read. Running the intriguing plot on a multi-perspective timeline, Farley introduced me to a fascinating cast. The suspense accompanying the narration kept me on the edge of my seat, leaving me turning page after page. I never knew where the story was heading. The vivid depictions brought the scenes to life. It felt like I was next to the characters in every scene, closely following their moves. Farley harnesses sentiment to the narration, allowing me to experience the characters’ emotions. Juxtaposing their traits strengthened the story’s grip on reality and made it easy to connect with them. The conversations are purposeful and character-driven, entwined with sarcasm and wit. They gave depth to the characters' conflicts. Faceoff has deceit, betrayal, murder, money, racketeering, scheming, ruthless kingpins, sleuths, and much more to enjoy.
