Henry Farley began writing novels ten years ago. His journey started with an unfinished manuscript inspired by the crime thrillers he enjoyed reading and watching on screen. Encouraged by friends, he completed the story, which was first published as Better Dead Than Alive before being revised and republished as Fatal Deceit. It became the foundation for the books that followed.
His second novel, No Time to Play, departed from crime fiction to tell the remarkable true story of his mother's experiences as a sixteen-year-old helping the Austrian Resistance while working for the Deutsche Reichsbahn during the Second World War. Born in Graz, Henry returned there several times with his mother after the family settled in the United Kingdom. The novel takes its title from her own memoir.
Although his novels have explored diverse subjects, each contains an element of crime.
Raised by his mother in Coventry during a period of financial hardship, Henry also witnessed the prejudice she endured because of her German accent. Originally hoping for an artistic career, he instead became a Chartered Civil and Structural Engineer after colour blindness closed that path. Following retirement, he discovered that writing fiction required far more than the technical skills developed through years of engineering reports.
His favourite novel is To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, closely followed by Catch-22 by Joseph Heller.

Running the intriguing plot on a multi-perspective timeline, Farley introduced me to a fascinating cast. The suspense accompanying the narration kept me on the edge of my seat, leaving me turning page after page. I never knew where the story was heading. The vivid depictions brought the scenes to life. It felt like I was next to the characters in every scene, closely following their moves. Farley harnesses sentiment to the narration, allowing me to experience the characters’ emotions. Juxtaposing their traits strengthened the story’s grip on reality and made it easy to connect with them. The conversations are purposeful and character-driven, entwined with sarcasm and wit. They gave depth to the characters' conflicts. Faceoff has deceit, betrayal, murder, money, racketeering, scheming, ruthless kingpins, sleuths, and much more to enjoy.
