Fiend, written by Toletha J. Dixon, is a fiction thriller. Given the content of the book, younger readers should steer clear. If rated by a movie standard, this book would be Rated R. The layout and design of the book is standard and easy to read. The cover design is excellent but not too revealing, as to give away the plot.
Toletha J. Dixon tops the cake with this thriller. Get ready to venture into the life of a boy feeling abandonment, fear, emptiness, shame, sadness -- lots of demonic raw emotion. Images of blood and gore will fill your mind during a few chapters. This is a page turner, to say the least, but not one that will give all away too soon. As you, the reader, are completing each chapter, you will find yourself trying to imagine the ending. Just when you think you know what is ailing the boy, boom! you are wrong, and the author reveals the most horrifying part of the story, the ending.
I don't normally read books of this genre but I was stunned by the level of terrible emotion that went through my entire body while reading this book. As I reached the end, my body tensed to almost the point of an anxiety attack, when the author revealed all. I felt as though I was watching a horror film play out on the television, only to realize that it was my imagination in full work mode, imagining what the words would look like if it was a scene on the TV or in a movie. That's how descriptive the text within the pages of this book is. Well done, Toletha J. Dixon.
